Different Types of Papers for Packaging Box

Working in a paper packaging manufacturer in China, we come across a number of paper types, which can be a little overwhelming for the average customer. So we decided to explain in more detail exactly what each paper type consists of and their main uses.

What is Cardstock?

Cardstock, also called cover stock and pasteboard is paper that is thicker than ordinary printer paper but thinner and more flexible than cardboard.

Are cardstock and paperboard the same thing?

Paperboard is paper with a grammage above 250 g/m2, but it is still just one layer. 300gsm and 350gsm. It’s the normal material of choice for folding cartons, product boxes, or paperboard boxes.

What is Greyboard?

The greyboard also known as grey chipboard, is a type of paperboard. Greyboard is a 100% recycled material that is formed by transforming recycled fibers and compressing them into a strong, flexible board. They are Environmentally friendly & made from 100% recyclable materials. Very thick and durable. Greyboard is normally used for backings to add extra strength and rigidity. It can be used for rigid boxes such as set-up boxes, pull-out boxes, magnetic lid rigid boxes, foldable rigid boxes, etc.

What is Cardboard?

Cardboard is three layers of heavy paper, two flat with a wavy one in the middle. It’s a heavy-duty choice for protecting goods (usually solid items) that need to be stored and transported like cardboard shipping boxes, mailer boxes, and tear-open corrugated boxes.
